After collecting signatures earlier this month, opponents of the $6 million Cable Road project have submitted their referendum petition to the city of Lima and the Allen County Board of Elections.
With the passage of Senate Bill 57 in Ohio, some local governments are re-evaluating how they handle marijuana possession charges. With hemp now legalized, the City of Columbus city attorney announced they won't be prosecuting misdemeanor marijuana possession charges and are dismissing any current charges of the type. Lima officials say that's not the case here. They'll continue enforcing and prosecuting for those charges, but on a case-by-case basis. It's difficult now because drugs containing 3 percent or lower of THC are classified as hemp. Everything with a higher concentration is marijuana.
Members of the Allen County Bar Association used their monthly meeting to celebrate Law Day and recognize some award recipients. Among scholarships handed out, the bar association awarded Dr. Gary Beasley the 2019 Liberty Bell Award. The recognition is given to someone who promotes and encourages a better understanding of law and contributes to the good of the government. Vice president Tony Geiger said the former Allen County coroner has been involved in all aspects of community including social service and law enforcement. This is the 29th year Allen County has handed out the award.
Owners of 904 S. Main St., the site of a murder in December, have nearly reached an agreement with the City of Lima.
Owners of the building at 900-908 S. Main St., Victor Quintero and Gilbert Salaz, seemed to agree to a permanent injunction with the city, in court this morning.
The City of Lima filed another nuisance action on a downtown bar on Wednesday.
Law Director Tony Geiger said the action was taken on "Levels" bar at 122 E. North St. for much the same reasons of 904 S. Main St. Geiger said the business, formerly known as "Beantown Saloon," has had many criminal disturbances and excessive police calls.
After two shootings happened here less than six months, the owners of the G-Spot bar have decided to close their doors.
