Members of the Allen County Bar Association used their monthly meeting to celebrate Law Day and recognize some award recipients.
Among scholarships handed out, the bar association awarded Dr. Gary Beasley the 2019 Liberty Bell Award. The recognition is given to someone who promotes and encourages a better understanding of law and contributes to the good of the government. Vice president Tony Geiger said the former Allen County coroner has been involved in all aspects of community including social service and law enforcement. This is the 29th year Allen County has handed out the award.
"He's had a little bit of involvement with everybody and during his 13 years as county coroner," said Geiger. "We wanted to extend our appreciation to him and recognizer the fine efforts that he's made."
The two students awarded $1,000 scholarships for their essays were Taylor Burgess and Michelle Rode.
