LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A local volunteer program is looking for more people to recruit for their cause.
At the Area Agency on Aging 3 building, there are a few programs looking for volunteers to come in and support older people in nursing homes. The volunteers simply talk with the residents and be a listening ear to them. One program, being the Retired Senior Volunteer program, brings people together through connection, as well as learning new social skills. When a resident at a home has an advocate to listen to them, they feel a little better about their day.
"Volunteers are needed for many services in the community, but as she said, we don't have anybody going in currently to the Lima nursing homes to be an advocate and, you know, speak to older adults in there and just kind of be a sounding board for them," says Miranda Van Rooyen, Retired Senior Volunteer Director, Area Agency on Aging 3.
