LEIPSIC, Ohio (WLIO) — Christians gathered in Leipsic on Friday to provide a visual reminder of what Jesus Christ did before his crucifixion.

Members of the Leipsic Methodist Church joined congregations around the world in the Holy Week tradition of carrying the cross through the streets on Good Friday. The group began at the Meadows of Leipsic and walked one mile to their church on the west side of the village.

Leipsic community reflects on Holy Week with annual Cross Walk

The group began at the Meadows of Leipsic and walked one mile to their church on the west side of the village.

Along the route, participants stopped to read scripture and reflect on the events leading up to the crucifixion. Organizers say the cross walk is meant to help people experience Jesus’s story in a more personal and meaningful way during the Holy season.

“I hope they take away just the importance of the event that happened, that Jesus' sacrifice, and just the gift that we've been given in his resurrection, and so just hoping that they sense all of that during this time,” says Pastor Laurie Beaty, Leipsic Methodist Church.

Church leaders say the Leipsic Methodist Church revived the cross walk tradition about five years ago and has continued it as a way to bring the community together during Holy Week.
