Owen Grime’s 17 powers Kalida past Montpelier as Wildcats punch first state ticket since 2009

BOWLING GREEN (WLIO) — Kalida is headed to the state tournament for the first time since 2009 after defeating Montpelier 65-53 in the Division VII regional final at Bowling Green State University.
The Wildcats were tied 15-15 after the first quarter following a buzzer-beating putback from Owen Grime. Kalida then created separation in the second quarter as Jaxon Hoffman scored on a three-point play to help push the lead to 32-20 by halftime.
Grime led the Wildcats with 17 points, while Logan Kerner added key three-pointers in the second half to maintain the advantage. Grime later delivered a three-point play in the final minutes to seal the win.
Kalida advances to the state semifinal, where the Wildcats will face Hillsdale on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Nutter Center.
