An investigation is underway into a large amount of drugs discovered in a Van Wert home.
The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in partnership with the Van Wert Police Department, will team up tonight [June 13], in Van Wert, to remove impaired drivers from roadways in Van Wert County.
Thurman Daniels was changed with felonious assault from the incident and is in Van Wert Correctional.
August 23, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle, serious injury crash that occurred early this morning on US 30 at Mendon Road in Van Wert County. At approximately 0306 hours, a Ford Explorer police cruiser operated by a Van Wert Police Officer was responding to an incident and was traveling northbound on Mendon Road at US Route 30.
The thief was in and out of the store in 17 seconds and was wearing a dark grey hooded jacket, a dark face covering, and white gloves. A third man has been charged in the 2022 Van Wert home invasion, where the other two have been sentenced this month to prison time. A Van Wert County Grand jury has indicted 20-year-old Seth Hitzeman from Payne on the charges of aggravated burglary, kidnapping, felonious assault, and theft. Hitzeman was arrested in Indiana following the indictment and a gun was found in his car. He was transported back to Van Wert to face charges.
19-year-old Kaiden Gilbert and 19-year-old Johnathan Miller, both from Van Wert, were arraigned this week. They are charged with aggravated burglary, kidnapping, felonious assault, and theft. Van Wert Police say that on May 9th, an armed burglary took place at a home in the 300 block of Tyler Street. Two people were in the home at the time. The suspects had a gun and allegedly beat one of the victims with it, sending them to the hospital.

The incident happed around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Pak-A-Sak on the north side of Van Wert. The male suspect rode up on a bicycle and started to pry on the door. The window broke and the suspected entered the business and stole items. The Van Wert Police Department is looking for any help to identify the suspect.
