LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Allen East Mustangs set the tone early and never let go, defeating the Dayton Stivers Tigers 61-52 in the first matchup of the day.
Allen East came out hot, opening the game with sharp ball movement and perimeter shooting. Brady Brooks found Deacon Jones open on the wing, and the senior knocked down a 3-pointer to get the Mustangs on the board.
The Mustangs stayed aggressive. Keagan Jones grabbed an offensive rebound on the next possession and kicked the ball back out to Deacon Jones, who buried another 3 to give Allen East a 5-point advantage.
Deacon Jones continued to facilitate, finding Cam Smith in the corner for a 3-pointer. The sophomore’s shot pushed the Mustangs ahead 11-3 and forced Stivers to call a timeout.
Allen East kept its foot on the gas coming out of the break. Keagan Jones drilled a straightaway 3-pointer, followed by a possession that ended with Braxston Montgomery connecting from beyond the arc to extend the lead.
The Mustangs also made an impact on the defensive end, coming up with stops and turning them into transition points. After one defensive stand, Travis Stanley raced ahead of the defense and finished at the rim.
Allen East maintained control throughout the game and closed out the win, topping Stivers 61-52.
