Local students spelled to the best of their ability Saturday morning for a shot at participating in the next level of the National Spelling Bee.Â
48 spellers from around the area, who had advanced past their home schools' spelling bees participated in the Regional Spelling Bee in Lima. Â The winner of the regional competition will move on to the national level, which will be held in Washington D.C. Â The opportunity to make it to the nation's capital is an exciting possibility for all of the students who participated.
"It's very exciting, especially for the kids and their parents, it's kind of a family event, the kids work hard to get here, there's a lot of pressure being in front of the crowd and on the stage, but I think they're ready to handle it today," said Doug Olsson, publisher for the Lima News, one of the presenters of the event.
The winner was Adith Joshua George from Sydney. He will advance to nationals in May.
