BLUFFTON, OH (WLIO) - With the Fourth of July around the corner, a local firework store is seeing a surge in customers eager to make this Independence Day an unforgettable celebration. Ellie Janszen has the story.
"It makes me think about what the Fourth of July means: That's independence and 'We, the People,'" commented Marshall Shankes, a shopper at Springfield Fireworks.
As the Fourth of July approaches, Springfield Fireworks in Bluffton is gearing up for their customers to light up the sky. In July 2022, Ohio updated the fireworks laws to allow people to set them off on specific dates and times. Staying stocked up as some of those days approach is important.
"We're expecting a good weekend this weekend because it is a legal weekend to shoot fireworks as well as the 3rd, 4th, and 5th, and then the weekend following the fourth, so we expect it to really pick up this weekend," stated Greg Greer, operations manager at Springfield Fireworks.
From the factories to Bluffton to the sky, Springfield Fireworks prepares to ensure a fun selection to commemorate the holiday.
"They have everything we need; they have an excellent selection. Whatever you want. I mean from boomers to, uh, the huge ones that you see on the Fourth," said Ellen Lapham, a shopper at Springfield Fireworks.
Those that are buying fireworks for the legal days are encouraged to have fun and celebrate, but also stay safe by following protocols.
"Just use them safely; they all come with instructions on how to use them. The thing is to be smart when you're using them and not trying to modify anything or use anything in the wrong way."
