DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) — Jefferson's Kyah Kimmett has been described as the epitome of hard work.
The Wildcat senior showcases her talents on the soccer field, basketball court and on the track.
"Ky has high standards, and every day she comes to practice and she wants to improve, and every day she will ask, 'What can I do?' So that improvement every single day — to see her excel — is phenomenal," said Jefferson track and field head coach Denise Lindeman.
Jefferson's Kyah Kimmett is a standout on the track, basketball court and on the soccer field, and her involvement in each of those programs has played a meaningful role in shaping her life.
"I've just always been oriented in sports. So I kind of chose those three from a young age, and they kind of just stuck with me throughout middle school and into high school, and they became my favorite, and they honestly just became such a big part of my life," said Kimmett.
Kimmett is not done yet. The Wildcat senior will continue her track and field career at Ohio Northern University.
"I chose Ohio Northern because when I went on my visit, I felt just so welcomed. I fell in love with the campus. It was so beautiful, and I was able to meet some of the girls on the team, and they just made me feel like I was already a part of the family," said Kimmett.
"To be a college athlete, it takes a lot of time, a lot of dedication. So to see her have that strive and that will and that eagerness to go on, I'm so excited for her," said Lindeman.
When it comes to the classroom, Kimmett has a 3.73 GPA.
"I think Nakiyah is a natural leader, whether she's on the field or she's in school. She definitely shows students that you can balance it all, and she makes sure to show that through her grades and through her performance on the field, as well as all the many groups and activities she's a part of," said Jefferson senior seminar teacher Elizabeth Beaubien.
While at Ohio Northern, Kimmett will major in early childhood education to become a teacher.
"I feel like I have a willingness to help others, like I want to help others be the best that they can be. Growing up with little siblings has kind of helped me for my decision, and I feel like I could make a big impact on their life," said Kimmett.
For Kyah Kimmett, the mission goes beyond the game — she's working to set the standard for those coming up behind her.
"I want to be someone that little kids can look up to and they think, 'I want to follow in her footsteps and do what she does.' And I hope that I can be that person and be remembered for that," said Kimmett.
Congratulations to Kyah Kimmett— our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week of the Week.
