LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Allen County Children’s Services held their annual banquet celebrating foster parents and the work that they do.

The foster parent appreciation banquet is held to thank and honor foster parents in the Allen County area. With 29 current licensed foster homes, these parents have been called on at all hours to take in a child in need of a safe environment. At the banquet, live entertainment brought the families joy, and a key speaker talked about the importance of fostering children.

“We appreciate our foster parents every day, but our annual banquet allows us to celebrate them and also bring the community together to show our support for the foster parents,” says Shelly Conrad, program administrator for Allen County Children Services.

“More foster families are needed, and Ohio, much like the rest of the nation, we are in a foster care crisis. There just aren't enough families to care for the numbers of kids who need temporary care by families,” says Johanna Pearce, the speaker for the foster parent appreciation banquet.
