LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - People were ready to take a trip back in time at the Allen County Historical Museum, where one of the museum's docents gave an engaging talk on Allen County's brush with the gangster era.
Karlyn Lauer, a docent at the museum, delved into the background of the gangster crew, Sheriff Jess Sarber, jailbreaks, and many other events from the era.
Being located between Chicago and New York, Allen County had a few notable encounters during the gangster era, the most captivating of which was the story of Sarber and Dillinger. Karlyn Lauer, a docent at the museum, delved into the background of the gangster crew, Sheriff Jess Sarber, jailbreaks, and many other events from the era. She also emphasized the importance of continuing to learn about local history.
"You know that saying, you're going to repeat history, you will repeat history. I read history, I read presidential history, I read just history of the United States. I see things, and I think, 'that's just like today,' it repeats itself. So what can we learn from how they dealt with it, so we can deal with our situation," said Karlyn Lauer, docent at the Allen County Museum.
Lauer also encouraged anyone interested to check out the Dillinger exhibit on display at the museum.
