LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A family dog was killed in a house fire Wednesday morning on Lima’s north side.
The Lima Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from a home at 1236 N. Union St. around 7:45 a.m.
According to fire officials, all residents were able to safely evacuate the home before firefighters arrived. However, crews later found the family’s dog inside the residence. The animal died as a result of the fire.
Firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further through the home.
Officials said the fire originated in the kitchen, but the cause remains under investigation.

Damage to the home is estimated at approximately $25,000.
