LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Rotary Club is continuing its commitment to helping nontraditional students achieve their educational goals by awarding scholarships to 14 area residents.
Each recipient received a $1,000 scholarship to help pay for education leading to a degree or career certification. The students are pursuing a variety of fields, including nursing, meteorology, cosmetology and other career paths.
Recipients said the scholarships will help ease the financial burden of continuing their education while allowing them to pursue careers they are passionate about.
"Anything that helped me get through college, it's hard. I don't make enough money as it is to get through college on my own. So any scholarship is amazing," said Jenna Dawson, who is studying meteorology at Rhodes State College.
"It's really my passion just to make girls feel good. Like it's a part of being a woman. It's a part of self-esteem and having confidence. Like why not I share that with other people?" said Jasmine Walker, who is studying spa and technology at Apollo Career Center.
Since 2001, the Lima Rotary Club has awarded more than 1,300 scholarships totaling more than $1.056 million, continuing its long-standing investment in education and workforce development throughout the community.
