LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen County Museum is preparing for a series of improvements aimed at better preserving and showcasing local history.

Executive Director Christine Fowler-Shearer previewed plans for a capital campaign during the weekly meeting of the Lima Rotary Club. The campaign, set to launch later this year, will focus on creating an endowment fund, preserving the historic MacDonell House and updating exhibits to provide more in-depth information for visitors.

Allen County Museum plans capital campaign for improvements

Executive Director Christine Fowler-Shearer previewed plans for a capital campaign during the weekly meeting of the Lima Rotary Club.

At the top of the priority list is an upgrade to the museum’s HVAC system.

“The HVAC unit is more than just heating and cooling, It protects the collections. It protects the objects. It's really necessary to keep us moving forward and preserving things for, you know, decades to come. And so that is definitely a high priority. And then the galleries also, some of them haven't been updated in a really long time, and so it's just tying it more into the story of transportation and making it more accessible for different students and different grades and everything to kind of go through and actually build curriculum around it. So that's kind of what our plan is,” says Christine Fowler-Shearer, Ex. Dir. Allen County Museum.

In addition to infrastructure upgrades, museum leaders hope refreshed gallery spaces will better connect exhibits to the region’s transportation history and create more opportunities for curriculum-based learning.

The museum plans to hold a preview event for the campaign in mid-May.
