LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The arrival of summer weather brings plenty of sunshine and outdoor fun, but it also poses serious health risks for some residents. According to medical experts, people age 65 and older are at a higher risk for heat-related illness due to factors such as heart disease, certain medications, and poor circulation.

To help protect senior citizens from the summer heat, Councilman Derry Glenn is once again collecting air conditioners to distribute to those in need. Glenn is seeking either monetary donations or actual air conditioning units to provide relief for area seniors.

“Will come pick them up, old or new. We can pick them up for the people. This is very, very, very, very, great for the people. A lot of folks have been calling right now. We have 35 people on a waiting list right now. They need air conditioning right now. So, we want to make sure that we show our hometown pride and that the people that know we care, like you guys been doing for since 2000 when we started this program and been very successful every year,” says Derry Glenn, Lima’s 6th Ward councilman.
