LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Dozens of behavioral health professionals came together at Rhodes State College to gain insight on how to better support their clients’ mental wellness.

The group attended a conference where several speakers discussed various aspects of mental health and its effects on individuals. Topics included the impact of domestic violence, trauma-informed care, the therapeutic use of laughter, and other treatment approaches for mental health issues.

Experts emphasized the interconnectedness of mental and behavioral health, underscoring the importance of raising awareness about the relationship between the two. Dr. Patricia Hampshire, Director of Student Counseling Services at Rhodes State College, addressed the significance of viewing behavioral health from a broader perspective.

“When we think about mental health, it tends to have a negative connotation,” Hampshire said. “But when we talk about behavioral health, it’s generalized enough in a way that people understand that if you are having struggles with your mental health, that it affects all of you. It affects all of your person.”

Attendees received continuing education credits for their participation in the conference.
