LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - "Happy Easter! He is Risen; He is Risen indeed!"
Easter is when families gather and enjoy a nice, cooked meal together, but some may not have that opportunity.
Compassionate Ministries of Lima has held their annual community Easter dinner for those who are in need of food. Many gathered to get a warm plate of the Easter meal and were provided either a to-go box or were able to sit inside the warm Civic Center venue to enjoy their food.
Volunteers from all types of churches in Lima came to help serve their community, as well as spreading the love of Jesus Christ and his resurrection.
"Our community is what makes us. You know, you make new friends and they become your family. And, you know, we reach out to each other, we're with each other and learn about Jesus together and love and pray. What better way," says Tina Moorman, a volunteer for the Community Easter Dinner.
The ministry doesn't simply hold this event to give away food, but they wanted to honor Jesus’ message for those in need.
"He always encourages His disciples to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to give water to the thirsty. So, I don't know if there's a better thing that we could do on the day that we celebrate Jesus rising from the dead than to just share with those who are in need, maybe folks that are lonely, bringing them together. Bringing everyone together around really, the Lord's table. This is a radical declaration of the kingdom of God on Easter," says Jonathan Burkey, Executive Director for Compassionate Ministries of Lima.
Many left this event with empty plates, smiles, and new friends to walk with in Christ.
