LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A new dialogue between educators and business owners hopes to bring down barriers for youth entering the workforce.

It was the first of what they hope will be many meetings between the two. The Allen County Workforce and Education Forum has local small business owners and Allen County school superintendents sitting around the table talking about barriers that students and recent graduates may face when entering the workforce.

Educators and business leaders collaborate on workforce readiness

"How are educators preparing the future workforce, and more definitively, are those skill sets aligned with the needs of the future?" said Dr. Willie Heggins, chairman of the Allen County Workforce and Education Forum. "It's going to be a constructive dialog for us to kind of look at where we are today, where we need to where we're going, and where do we need to make some modifications and adjustments along the way."

"How do we get more internship time in the businesses so the students are more career aware of what's out there to do in the Lima market and what is needed in the Lima market," said J.J. Sreenan, of the Chamber Small Business Advisory Group.
