LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Learning an instrument isn't always as cheap and accessible as Healing Strings makes it.
Healing Strings is a group that focuses on teaching stringed instruments to anyone who wants to learn. When they first started out, the majority of attendees were veterans and first responders, but now, it has grown into a wide variety of age groups. Biweekly, each musician shows up and is ready to learn, or they can play around with different instruments to see which one they like most. This is a free program, making it available to anyone who would like to learn music.
"Individuals really benefit from hands-on activities. They benefit from being able to use their hands and growing into something. So, with music, we found that it can be beneficial, it can be therapeutic, it can get you talking, it can make your day a little better so," says Dustin Cover, the founder of Healing Strings.
"We have kids, we have veterans, we have first responders, we have old people, young people, really everything in between, we've helped a lot of demographics here," says Camille Freking-Cover, co-founder of Healing Strings.
Healing Strings meets on every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at Shawnee United Methodist Church. Be sure to check it out if you are interested.
