LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Break out the sunscreen, water, and bug spray because it's camping time!

Children ages 7 through 9 joined the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District for their "Herp! Herp! Hooray!" summer day camp celebrating all things "herptiles."

During the two-day event, campers will participate in interactive lessons and activity stations designed to learn about Ohio's amazing amphibians and reptiles before going out on an adventure to find these native creatures in their environment.

"I really enjoy building science inquiry skills in the kids. So, when we take them out for the hikes, rather than telling them what we're finding, I'm interested in seeing what they notice, what they're curious about, and how they make observations. Then, leading them in finding those observations to understand why that's important for the animals," told Lindsey Gallaugher, Nature Education Supervisor.
