COLUMBUS, OHIO (WLIO) — The Ohio General Assembly has confirmed Jim Tressel as the state’s new lieutenant governor. Both the Ohio House and Senate approved Governor Mike DeWine’s nomination Wednesday afternoon, 2 days after DeWine announced his nomination.
The vote was 31-1 in the Ohio Senate and 68-27 in the Ohio House. Ohio's Speaker of the House Matt Huffman told reporters that Tressel was the right man for the job, saying his years as Youngstown State University president have given him the experience to manage people and collaborate with lawmakers.

DeWine said Monday during the announcement that Tressel’s role in his administration is still being discussed. Tressel will serve the remaining 22 months of Jon Husted’s term before the 2026 election determines the next governor and lieutenant governor.
