LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A candidate pair from the Libertarian Party of Ohio running in this year’s state gubernatorial race spoke in Lima Friday about their decision to run and the key issues they want to address.

The pair is Libertarian gubernatorial candidate and Ottawa resident Don Kissick and his running mate for lieutenant governor, James Mills.

Kissick has previously sought political office multiple times, including runs for Congress against Reps. Jim Jordan and Bob Latta in 2010 and 2018, respectively; Allen County commissioner in 2012; and the U.S. Senate in 2024. During their appearance in Lima, Kissick and Mills outlined their visions for Ohio.

"I'm running for governor just to give people some real choices. If people aren't willing to look outside the two-party system, they're going to keep getting the same results, the same authoritarian approach to governance at the state level. The thing that is affecting everyone is affordability. Well, I want to try and figure out some tax cuts wherever possible. One of the biggest drivers for the high cost of living, just everywhere, is the cost of healthcare. At the state level, we can impact that by getting rid of certificate of need laws. These are monopolistic that make life harder for everyone unnecessarily," says Don Kissick, Libertarian Candidate for Ohio Governor.

"We have the opportunity to instill just a little bit more humanity back into the world. The three main takes would be anti-corruption, economic freedom, and its personal dignity. I'm very against lobbying and money in politics. It would be ideal to abolish property tax, and I'm sure most of Ohioans would agree with that. ICE is something I see as a very big executive overreach, and we can always have the discussion of like 'alright well, what's the best process to having immigration,'" says James Mills, Libertarian Candidate for Ohio Lieutenant Governor.

Kissick and Mills will hold a campaign launch meeting Saturday, Feb. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Plank’s Café and Pizzeria in Columbus.

We also would like to report for full transparency and disclosure that Don Kissick is an employee at Your Hometown Stations.
