LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Lima ALTRUSA club held their annual Kentucky Derby fundraiser.
The Lima ALTRUSA club is a non-profit service organization dedicated to improving local communities through volunteer service with a strong focus on literacy and community needs. With this fundraiser, all proceeds from the food, drinks, and raffles went to the club and to help support their future events. With live music, the derby, and a dress to impress theme, all attendees were able to connect with other community members, have some friendly competition, and enjoy the night.
"This is a fundraiser. This is a fun event to raise money for scholarships for Rhodes State students. We provide 3 scholarships a year for Rhodes State students," says Linda Washington, president of the ALTRUSA Club.
"As you can see, both gentlemen and ladies from the community have come out in their Kentucky Derby hats, and outfits, to help raise money for the important events this club does throughout our city," says Mayor Sharetta Smith, City of Lima.
The Lima branch of ALTRUSA is seeking out volunteers to join. Check out their website for more details.
