LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Area Concert Band is preparing for another season of performances and inviting the community to attend its upcoming concerts.
The band has been entertaining music lovers since 1971, when it held its first performance under the name the Million Dollar Band. In 1972, the group became a nonprofit organization and adopted its current name. Today, the ensemble is made up of about 70 volunteer musicians from across northwest Ohio.
The season opener is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and will feature a patriotic salute to America’s birthday. The season includes four concerts at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center, along with three free community concerts throughout the summer.
Band members say the performances are designed to be enjoyable for audiences of all ages and encourage the public to attend.
Angie Herzog of the Lima Area Concert Band said, “I would say, We play a lot of great music, and I see the people in the audience just grinning and tapping and clapping, you know, just people enjoy it when they come. So I would really hope that kids, adults, anybody, would come out and enjoy one of our concerts.”
Season ticket prices have remained at $50, while single concert tickets cost $15 — rates that have not changed in more than two decades. Students are admitted free. The full season concert lineup is available on the band’s website.
