LIMA, OH (WLIO) — Lima Memorial is offering high school students an immersive experience in the health care industry.

Lima Memorial offers high school students a hands-on experience in health care careers

On Friday, the health system hosted a career exploration event, where students got hands-on experience in obstetrics, respiratory services, and surgical services. By allowing students to engage with medical equipment, Lima Memorial hopes the day will open their eyes to the variety of career fields available in a hospital setting.

“There are so many people that take part in the hospital. You know, we've come together as a team. We have respiratory therapy. We have lab, physical therapy, occupational, so many, EVS (Environmental Services) down to cleaning the room. So for them to come in and actually get to be exposed to all these different specialties and occupations, I think, is really cool. I wish they had something like that for me when I was in high school,” says Tiffany Thomas, supervisor for the LMHS Respiratory Department.

Freshman Ava Masters from Ottawa-Glandorf is interested in the medical field and wanted to learn more about different careers. Her hands-on experience included simulating a baby delivery.

“Very cool, very cool. I have four younger siblings, so it's very cool to see how it all works and everything. I learned so much in little time. There’s so many careers that you wouldn’t even think are a thing, and until you come,” says Ava Masters, a freshman at Ottawa-Glandorf High School.
