LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - With OMEA’s solo and ensemble competition this Saturday, many Lima students are polishing up their work for their performance. Lima Senior, however, hosts something a little different from the other schools.

Students at Lima Senior get a "practice run" in the comfort of their own school by performing their pieces in front of an audience. This audience includes their friends, family, and music teachers, all there to cheer them on and help them build confidence for their big moment this upcoming Saturday. With music teachers writing helpful notes, this recital is a great benefit for these students.

Lima Senior hosts pre-OMEA recital

"It kind of gets out some of the butterflies before Saturday, which can be very nerve wracking for students. This, like I said, is a safe place and a very forgiving audience. We all just want them to do well," says Amy Phillips, Choir Director of Lima Senior High School, Lima.

With an informal recital a few days prior to their true, graded performance, she says that having a supportive audience can really help the stage fright disappear. With peers, family members, and teachers cheering them on, each solo and ensemble participant can feel comfortable, and confident, with their prepped work.
