WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — An Elida man has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for causing a fatal crash in Auglaize County in July 2025.
Jeffrey Odenweller, 23, pleaded no contest in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court and was found guilty of aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of Tara Skeens of Spencerville.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Odenweller failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of State Route 197 and Conant Road and struck a pickup truck driven by Michael Makar of Spencerville. Skeens was a passenger in the vehicle and later died from her injuries.
Troopers say alcohol was a suspected factor in the crash. Odenweller’s driver’s license was also suspended for 50 years.
