LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The City of Lima’s annual Arbor Day celebration will carry added significance this year, as it hosts the first ceremonial tree planting in Ohio’s 88 counties as part of the America 250-Ohio commemoration.
Lima has planted trees on Arbor Day for decades to help educate residents about the importance of maintaining a healthy urban tree canopy. This year’s event highlights the city’s longstanding commitment to that cause.
“It’s always a good thing that people understand we have programs associated with this, like our tree rebate,” said Ric Stolly, deputy public works director for parks, recreation and forestry. “Once people are educated on the value of a good tree canopy in a community, they begin to think about how they can participate in that. That’s part of what Arbor Day is about. Lima has been fortunate enough to be a Tree City USA for 37 consecutive years, and it’s part of our mission to make sure that continues.”
The public is invited to attend the ceremonial tree planting at Lima Stadium Park on Friday at 10 a.m. Parking will be available on the east side of the stadium.
