LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A remembrance ceremony was hosted today to honor the late Reverend Jesse Jackson.
Taking place at Providence Missionary Baptist church, dr. Derry Glenn and the community action program held a special memorial to reflect on all the work Jesse Jackson has done. By sharing personal testimonies, singing together in fellowship, and having moments to learn about his mission, reverend Jesse Jackson was honored. Some shared their personal relationships with Jackson, talking about him visiting lima in 2008 following the police shooting that killed Tarika Wilson and injured her one-year-old son. Jackson has made a big impact on lima local leaders, who continue to live by his mission.
"We were very excited about it when he came to Lima. He worked with us on some projects here in Lima, the problems we had. Also, I'd communicate with him, I had opportunity to meet with him in 1984 when he decided to run for president at Central State University, so I had opportunity to talk to him before he came to Lima," says Derry Glenn, Lima's 6th Ward Councilman.
By hearing Glenn’s personal testimony about Jackson and his relationship with Lima, the audience was inspired to let Reverend Jesse Jackson’s legacy live on.
