The event honors George Washington Carver, a scientist and educator who pioneered hundreds of uses for peanuts and other crops. Students and staff gathered to sample peanut butter treats and learn about Carver’s legacy as part of American history. Campus leaders say the annual event is designed to spark conversation and education at the start of the monthlong observance of Black History Month.
“It’s important because Black history is American history, so it’s important to keep that at the forefront of our students, our faculty and staff, that we are continuing to celebrate Black History Month. Again, American history,” said Temple Patton, student outreach manager at Ohio State Lima.
