LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Students at Freedom Elementary received a big surprise Friday, thanks to the Lima Exchange Club.
For more than 20 years — even before Freedom Elementary was built — the club has provided Christmas presents to kindergarten through fourth-grade students in the Lima School District.
Santa and his helpers delivered books, treats and toys, along with winter essentials such as hats, gloves and socks. The event brings as much excitement to the club members as it does to the students.

“It's our favorite project every time of year, because we get Santa out, we have wonderful sponsors who help us with things like warm clothing, with some snack treats, with a few toys, with a few coloring books and crayons, that kind of thing. It just makes Christmas for the kids, and it's just amazing to walk into each classroom Santa comes in, the kids just flock to him. They all hug him. They all want to picture with him. And it's just a wonderful Christmas time thing to do, and our club just takes pride in being able to do it every year," says Mike Mullen, Lima Exchange Club Secretary.
With support from the Lima Eagles Aerie 370 and Nutrien, all students will also receive a Freedom Elementary T-shirt featuring the Spartan logo.
