WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) - Auglaize County commissioners talking about and taking the first steps toward roof repairs at the Auglaize County courthouse following last Friday's windstorm.

At around 2:30 Friday afternoon, portions of the copper roof on the south side of the tower were ripped off from west winds and thrown east onto Willipie Street in downtown Wapakoneta. Auglaize County commissioner Doug Spencer says no one was entering nor exiting the building at the time the debris fell to the ground. Spencer says three cars were damaged by the falling debris, but thankfully, no one suffered any injuries. In the meantime, commissioners are pursuing the initial insurance claim.

Auglaize County officials take first steps to repair courthouse roof after windstorm

"Frost Roofing was right next door at the time at fire station that had some rough damage - and they were quickly over, did their initial assessment about how to get it buttoned up because of the rain that was forecasted to come on Saturday," said Doug Spencer, Auglaize County commissioner. "That was our that was our major concern of getting it buttoned up. At this point, we have zero estimates as to what it's going to take or what the timeline is going to be for the replacement there."

The courthouse did close Friday afternoon following the roof damage. Normal business resumed Monday.
