SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLIO) - Shawnee High School hosted its 31st annual Fine Arts Exhibition on Thursday evening, giving the public an opportunity to experience the wide-ranging artistic talents of its students.

Shawnee showcases student creativity in 31st fine arts show

Several of the pieces have earned awards in local, state and national exhibits.

Roughly 250 works of art were on display, representing a variety of mediums including jewelry, ceramics and digital media. Several of the pieces have earned awards in local, state and national exhibits. The exhibition highlights student creativity that is often overshadowed by achievements in sports and academics.

"It means so much to me, because a lot of times, like, when I was younger, I didn't think that, like, any of my art was really good enough, or, like, if it was, like, too cartoony enough to be, like, presented in front of other people. But I'm happy that I get to, like, express myself and show other people like the artistic side of me, because I'm a very like sports and academic person. So I'm happy to get to show that side of myself to other people," said Maggie Jordan, senior at Shawnee High School.

"I've always been very creative, ever since a young age. And so having this as an outlet, just being able to express myself and different things about me, and just, I mean, even just coloring, like, all the colors and stuff is really like, it just makes you feel good. So yeah, it's just a feel good outlet," said Grace Meyer, senior at Shawnee High School.

"Watching them grow from even just in a semester's time. I had most of these students when they were little, and then I moved over to the high school. So I got to see them grow from when they were really little to young adults. Then just watching their progression, their confidence and their perseverance through art is just a remarkable thing to watch," said Gayle Trueblood, jewelry, sculpture and ceramics teacher at Shawnee High School.

The artwork will remain on display in the Guyon Information Center through Friday, May 9.
