Here are some of the programs and events being offered by the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District to kick off the summer season!
AMPHITHEATER PROGRAM
On Sat., May 30., at 7:00 p.m., The Johnny Appleseed Park District kicks off Summer with the first of its AMPHITHEATER PROGRAM SERIES held at OTTAWA METRO PARK (2632 Ada Rd., Lima, OH).
Join us as we gather to hear the traditional Irish music of Roscommon Sessions. There is no better way to celebrate the Summer season than with a fiddle and toe tapping rhythms. For information on this and other programs, contact the Park office at 419-221-1232.
DAY CAMP – BULLSEYE BASICS ARCHERY CAMP
The Johnny Appleseed Park District is offering BULLSEYE BASICS ARCHERY CAMP at the ALLEN CO. FARM PARK (1582 Slabtown Rd., Lima, OH) as a 2 – day camp for children ages 10-16. Dates and times for this camp are:
Tues., June 2 & Wed., June 3 from 8am to 11am OR
Thurs., June 4 & Fri., June 5 from 8am to 11am
Campers will be learning the basics of archery from certified archery instructors. Materials and equipment are provided from the park district, and participants may only materials provided. Dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, a snack, and sunscreen and bug spray if needed. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and pull back any long hair.
Each participant may only sign up for one session each. Registration, along with a non-refundable fee of $15 is required by May 25. Register online at www.jampd.com or by contacting the Park office at 419-221-1232.
COLOR CRAZY DAY CAMP
The Johnny Appleseed Park District will offer COLOR CRAZY DAY CAMP for ages 5-6 at the MCELROY ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER (2355 Ada Rd., Lima, OH). Dates and times for this camp are:
Tues., June 2 & Wed., June 3 from 9am – 12pm OR 1pm – 4 pm.
The natural world is full of animals in every color of the rainbow! Come explore the colorful and wonderful world of animals with us! Children are invited to come dressed in close-toed shoes for a hike in the woods. Please bring a packed lunch! Registration along with a non-refundable $10 fee is required by May 20. HOMESCHOOL HIKING CLUB
On Tues., June 2, at 10:00 a.m. The JOHNNY APPLESEED METROPOLITAN PARK DISTRICT will offer HOMESCHOOL HIKING CLUB and meet at MCLEAN TEDDY BEAR PARK – HORNUNG SHELTER (2004 N. Dixie Hwy., Lima, OH).
Homeschool Hiking Club invites families with children ages 6-10 on a monthly hike to connect with nature, engage with their community, and explore the forest ecosystem in each season. Have you spent time with us at archery camp and ready to get past the basics? Join us for advanced archery. Participants must have completed 2 summer archery camps with JAMPD previously to sign up for this camp.

KAYAKING 101
The Johnny Appleseed Park District is offering KAYAKING 101 at OTTAWA METRO PARK – LIMA LAKE (2632 Ada Rd., Lima, OH) for ages 18 and older. Program dates and times are Fri., June 5 and Fri., June 26 at 9am OR 10:30am.
Join us on the water at Lima Lake and learn the basics of kayaking! In our program, participants will learn from certified instructors how to safely and effectively launch and paddle a kayak. Instruction will be provided on parts of boat, proper safety gear and how to get out on the water. No prior experience is required.
