LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio received a major financial boost Tuesday with a donation of more than $60,000 from Good Food Restaurants Charities.
Local restaurateur John Heaphy presented the check, marking what he said will be the final donation from the charity arm of his business. Heaphy said he chose the pantry because of its longstanding impact on the community and its role in inspiring the charity program.

“The Veterans food pantry has been just an honor to work with and just to see the passion and the hard work that the volunteers there do and the good work that they do,” Heaphy said.
Pantry representatives said they were surprised by the size of the donation and expressed gratitude for the continued support. The funds were raised through various Good Food Restaurants fundraisers, events, as well as contributions from patrons and employees.
“This brings to the veterans food pantry of Northwest Ohio a good solid base to move forward with a new building, new infrastructure and also allows us to continue to be able to feed our veterans in Northwest Ohio,” said Denny Glenn.
The pantry is currently operating out of a temporary location on North Main Street in Lima but plans to move into a permanent facility near the Veterans Freedom Flag Memorial off Buckeye Road, next to the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center. Officials hope to complete the move by the end of the year.
