Arrest made in connection to Erin Mulcahy homicide case

The Auglaize County Sheriff's Office has announced an arrest has been made in connection to a year-long homicide investigation out of Waynesfield.

45-year-old Brent Williams was arrested for the murder of 35-year-old Erin Mulcahy. She was found dead in her home on July 8th of last year. Williams has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of tampering with evidence. He was arrested late last night in the Lima area. He is currently being held at the Auglaize County Correctional Center with a $500,000 bond.

"In any death investigation when we have not just the knocking on doors and talking to people, when there's forensic type things we have to deal with, we have to sometimes have to wait on those reports, wait on the coroner's report, make sure of things before we actually go out and make an arrest," explained Sheriff Al Solomon.

According to the Sheriff's Office website, Williams has a history of domestic issues having been arrested for domestic violence in November of 2016.

Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon announced an arrest has been made in connection with the homicide investigation of Erin Mulcahy.  Erin Mulcahy, age 35, was found deceased in her home on Karen St. in the Village of Waynesfield on July 8th, 2017.  The case has been an ongoing investigation since that time.

Sheriff Solomon advises his Office has arrested Brent A. Williams, 45 yoa, on 1 Ct. Murder (Ohio Revised Code 2903.02(A) and 1 Ct Murder (Ohio Revised Code 2903.02(B) and Tampering with Evidence (Ohio Revised Code 2921.12(A)1.)   Williams, who is from the Lima area, was married to the victim at the time of her death.  

The investigation indicated, along with the Coroners' report, that the death of Erin Mulcahy was a homicide.  

The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Waynesfield Police Dept., The Auglaize County Coroner’s Office, Auglaize County Prosecutors Office and Ohio B.C.I & I.  

Sheriff Solomon commented “Every death investigation is treated as suspicious until determined as otherwise." During the Investigation, it was also determined this was an isolated incident as the victim and suspect knew one other.  

Williams is currently incarcerated at the Auglaize County Correctional Center.  He has a $500,000.00 bond 10% plus OR.

The case remains under investigation and the Sheriff's Office will not release anything else at this time.
