ST. MARYS, OH (WLIO) - The colder months are now behind us, and it's a great time to be outside.

Final cabin fever hike welcomes spring sunshine

Heritage Trails Park District held the final hike in its Cabin Fever series on Sunday. The event began at Noble Township Hall, just north of St. Marys, with participants hiking along the Miami Erie Canal. Participants crafted their own bags of trail mix before setting off along the water. The hiking series ended on a sunny note, but getting outdoors during the colder months was the main goal.

"Well, obviously getting out in nature during some of the months of the year that you tend to hibernate a little bit more is really good for our physical health and also our mental health. Logging off of your electronics and just spending some time out in nature in Auglaize County, that is the goal," said Terry McDonald, administrative assistant with Heritage Trails Park District.

The park district has more events on the horizon, including a self-guided wildflower hike from April 20 through May 4. For more information, you can visit their website.
