CRIDERSVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) — Smiles filled the morning air as seniors at Otterbein Cridersville took part in a unique hot air balloon experience on campus.
Residents gathered outside to see a larger-than-life smiley-faced hot air balloon set up on the side lawn at Otterbein Cridersville. Midwest Balloon Rides, based in Indiana, gave residents tethered rides high above the campus, allowing seniors to take in scenic views while safely remaining connected to the ground. Many residents said the experience was one they will not soon forget.
“It is great. Absolutely beautiful day. To see the sunrise is just phenomenal,” said Kathy Kovacek after taking her first hot air balloon ride. When asked if she would go up again, she replied, “Oh, yes. In a heartbeat.”
Jackie Lynch, who was taking her second balloon ride, said, “I think it's exciting and I would love to take a real trip.”
Carl Spencer joked about wanting to go even farther.
“We thought we'd cut the ropes and let her go, but they wouldn't let us. So it was all right,” Spencer said. “It was real nice. Nice air this morning. Sunshine nice and bright.”
This marks the third time Otterbein Cridersville has offered hot air balloon rides for residents. Organizers say the event is another way to create memorable experiences for seniors living on campus. The next major event for residents will be Otterbein Cridersville’s annual car show on June 13, where seniors will have the opportunity to ride in their dream cars.
