WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - A family-owned bakery in Wapakoneta is doing its part in the fight against Alzheimer's.
For a minimum $5 donation, Beth's Bakery is offering a free Alzheimer's awareness-themed cookie. Proceeds go to the Alzheimer's Association as part of the 'Longest Day' campaign as the start of summer kicked off Thursday with the longest amount of sunlight.
Beth's Bakery opened in 1995 as an in-home licensed bakery by Beth Brookhart and has been passed down in the family. Owner Anthony Brookhart says he started baking as a child with his grandmother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013, and helping fight the disease is a cause near and dear to his heart.
"I've always enjoyed cooking, especially with my grandmother. She really helped me grow my love for cooking. If you would've told me ten years ago that I was gonna take over the bakery, I wouldn't have believed you, but it's been so wonderful to be able to continue to provide our product," explained Anthony Brookhart, owner and operator of Beth's Bakery.
You can still get the Alzheimer's awareness cookies tomorrow, June 21st, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a minimum $5 donation. Beth's Bakery is located at 8 Court Street, Wapakoneta, OH.
