Today's topic was everything you wanted to know about peonies. The flower is a captivating perennial that can flourish for more than a hundred years. The belief that it takes ants to open your peony bud is an old wives' tale. They are attracted to the sap but aren't needed to open the flower. The most important thing about the flower is how to plant it.

"People have a tendency to plant them too deep, and they only need to be in an inch and a half deep. Not six inches or twelve inches, you'll never get a bloom. So planting depth is critical," commented Kay Studer, OSU Extension Master Gardener.

Bring your own brown bag lunch to the gazebo in the Children's Garden, located at 620 West Market Street, Lima, OH 45801, at 12:15 p.m. on June 11th.
