Browns Backers award thousands of dollars in donations to local organizations1.jpg

It was not just the Cleveland Browns who had a better season this year. Their Backers did as well.

The Lima area Browns Backers managed to raise $10,528 through their fundraisers. All of that money will go back into the community, but they took some time to acknowledge four of their bigger donations at Paddy Mac's on Sunday evening (2/3/19). Deb's Dogs, Bittersweet Farms, Hunting with Heroes, and the South Side Spartan Boxing Club were recognized.

They managed to raise twice as much this past season than the one before, in part because the Browns had a better season.

"Success of the team helped out a lot but I think we did get the word out a lot more and beginning of the year everything was looking up so there was some days in here, I mean, you could not walk," said Jason Davis, President of the Lima Area Browns Backers.

Bittersweet Farms received $1,000, which they plan on putting towards their programs as well as a trip to Columbus.

"One thing we're going to do with this money is we're planning on a trip to the State House in Columbus," said Jerry Hunt, Program Manager for Bittersweet Farms. "We've already kind of talked about it and we want to do that just to get our folks out in the community, get them where they can see the same things that we see, enjoy the same things that we see, and to bring out their abilities and capabilities."

The Backers are hoping to hit the $15,000 mark by the end of next season.
