LIMA, OH (WLIO) - As the temperatures warm up, people are getting out into their yards and garages to do a little spring cleaning, and the City of Lima is once again offering residents a way to dispose of many items they may want to get rid of.
The Mayor's Spring Clean Up dates have been announced. The first date is on Saturday, May 4, 2024, followed by May 11, and then on June 1 and June 8. Dumpsters will be located at several locations around the city from 9 a.m. to noon.
"It's a totally free opportunity for really, residents to do their spring cleaning. Anything that you have, we'll have dumpsters all around the city the first two weekends in May and the first two weekends in June. Collett Street will also be there every single weekend. It's just an opportunity if you're cleaning out your basement, your front yard, or your backyard; get it all gathered and come throw it out to us," stated Sydni Winkler, Lima neighborhood specialist.
The following items will not be accepted: propane tanks, mercury switches, radioactive materials, batteries, compressed gas cylinders (no aerosol cans), chemical waste, and appliances. Brush and tires are being accepted only at 900 S. Collett Street. A limit of ten tires per customer will be accepted.
"Dumpster hosts" are needed for the spring clean-up. The city will provide t-shirts and loan tools needed to host a site to any organizations that volunteer to help.
They are also encouraging groups to host a service project during a spring clean-up on Saturday. The city will provide trash bags and a t-shirt and loan you the tools you need. For more information, you can call 419-221-5177.
