ROSS COUNTY, OH (WLIO) – A Lima man charged with killing an Ohio correction officer in December is scheduled to appear in court next week.

Rashawn Cannon is accused of attacking and killing Officer Andrew Lansing at Ross Correctional. He is facing aggravated murder charges in connection with the incident and has a pretrial hearing scheduled for June 24.

Cannon has been in prison since 2023, after he was found guilty of felonious assault and a weapons charge in Allen County.

On the day of the incident, Lansing was in a small structure in the middle of the yard at Ross Correctional that officers use, prison officials say. Cannon allegedly veered away from his unit going to the dining hall and attack Lansing killing him. Cannon is currently in the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown.
