Delphos Kiwanis Club puts on 4th of July Celebration

A tradition continues in Delphos as people from near and far come to Stadium Park to celebrate the 4th of July.

Every year, a celebration is put on in the park by the Delphos Kiwanis Club, and features activities like little league games, food, bingo, and so much more. The celebration is a tradition that has been held for a long time.

"This is a festival that has been going on for years, starting back with the Jaycees, and then the Kiwanis taking over, and it’s become a tradition that everybody looks forward to every year," said Ron Kimmet, president of the Delphos Kiwanis Club.

A big part of the celebration every year is to help support some of the projects that the Kiwanis Club is putting on. This year, a major focus is on the new Delphos pool house project, which is already underway.

"Now we're able to, along with the Stadium Club, get the pool house going, and of course with the Dienstberger Foundation helping to kick this off with their monetary donation, it will add now to the pool," Kimmet said.

Those that organize the event say that seeing everyone, whether they traveled just across town or from hours away, is one of the best things that the celebration offers.

"It brings everybody together - everyone’s laughing and having a good time, eating, drinking, despite the heat we still have record crowds out here today," said Cindy Metzger, treasurer of the Delphos Kiwanis Club. "We feel it’s important to have a festival like this, it just brings the community together."

"You see the same people, hopefully, some new faces every once in a while, but there are people that bring their families out here, and that’s what they count on every year," said Kimmet.
