Table One is a ministry in Kenton where their philosophy is "hand up", not "hand out".  It's a place where you can "pay what you can afford".
"If you can afford a regular meal like at Bob Evans or some place, that's what you do - you come in and we invite you to pay somewhere around that. Â If you can afford to pay it forward for somebody who can't, we invite you to do that. Â And there are more people that you might imagine that really can't afford a restaurant meal, much less with their kids - and some are just plain hungry," said Executive Director Loran Miracle.
Those who can't pay can exchange volunteer time for a meal. Â During any given lunch rush, table one can help feed 45 to 50 people, but for one couple, Table One affected more than just their lunchtime.
"Just being here makes me want to go help in other ways and volunteering in other places," said Richard Self.
Angelina and Richard Self are a couple that have given their time with their 6 month old son, Richard Jr. They don't have much, but they say that Table One have given them so much more than a meal.
"It's very nice, everyone is so friendly here; I recommend this place, I really do, because it's great food, great people to be around, and it's just easy help," said Angelina Self.
Volunteers are always needed - for more information, you can look up Table One on Facebook or tableonekenton.com.
