Findlay Flood Mitigation Project in the Works

The future of Findlay's flood-control plan still remains unclear. a study of Blanchard River was started by the Army Corps of Engineers after major flooding occurred in 2007. The army corps recently announced the study would take an extra six months to a year to complete, and would cost 80 million, rather than the original estimate of about 60 million. City officials are now deciding whether to move forward with the army corps or go with another engineering firm to design and oversee construction.

"Right now we're looking to meet with the Army Corps and kind of understand specifically, first hand, what the delays are related to and what their current situation is, and at the same time, we're simultaneously working to interview some engineering firms, so we can make an informed decision on what path we're going to take moving forward with the flood mitigation project," Brian Robertson, Hancock County Commissioner, said.

He says the Army Corps and EPA would still be involved either way, but if they hire an engineering firm it would become a locally funded project. They expect to have a final decision by mid-June.
