In an attempt to keep the pet population down the Auglaize County Humane Society is offering a free rebate voucher to be used at local participating veterinarians.
February is national Spay and Neuter month and Spay Days is back for its 4th year.
This year a check will be mailed back to you after the spay and neuter is complete, 25 dollars for each dog and 15 dollars for each cat.
Deb Logan, manager at the Humane Society talks about the importance of having the procedure done.
"You have a much healthier pet once they are spayed and neutered they don't want to roam they don't have that breed instinct in them so their not wanting to run away. Healthy wise they aren't going to get the cancers and things they could get by having multiple heats. female dogs can get pyometra, they can get uterine cancer just like people, male dogs can get testicular cancer just like males can get."
They get almost 500 vouchers a year turned in.
You can find a list of participating veterinarians along with additional discounts at the shelter.
Everything has to be turned in by March 31st.
You can pick up a voucher at the Auglaize County Humane Society shelter until March 7th.
