LIMA, OH (WLIO) - This is the first year for the #girlcancook Memorial Run to honor the life of Amy Market Jorgensen. Jorgensen lost her life one year ago and liked to run and cook, and when she posted on social media about her creations, she would put #girlcancook. So, friends and family wanted to honor her and created the run to raise money for Crossroads Crisis Center to help others leave a domestic violence situation.
“She had recently graduated from LSU; she had taken classes to work with nonprofits. By doing this, we are making her dream come true, although it is not the way it should have come true. But we are helping her achieve her goal,” says Jennifer Market, co-organizer and Amy’s sister-in-law.
Before the race, they announced that they had raised around $8,000 so far for the Crossroads Crisis Center. But besides raising funds, they hope the event will raise awareness too.
“I want domestic violence to have more coverage. There are so many people out there that are suffering in silence, or even not in silence,” adds Market. “And they don’t know the resources that are out there to help them.”
Market says they want to continue the Memorial Run for Jorgensen for many years to come.
