LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - A Lima City councilman is looking to teach kids about money responsibility during his annual Halloween party.
But besides the candy, Derry Glenn will be giving out saving bonds to a few of the kids for best costume or best GPA on their last report card.
On October 27th at Hover Park, Derry Glenn will be hosting his annual event. There will be candy for the kids and hot dogs for people that come out. But besides the candy, Derry Glenn will be giving out saving bonds to a few of the kids for best costume or best GPA on their last report card. Glenn says he wants to add a teachable moment during his events, and the savings bonds help the kids learn fiscal responsibility.
“We are going to give out 15 savings bonds for Halloween. It’s great to bring the kids out because I am going to educate the kids. More or less this is Trick or Treat, so we are going to be giving out bonds for the best-dressed kids. We are giving bonds to the kids with the greatest GPA; bring your grade card, and we are giving bonds for that. I am just excited about it though, because we started something new and the committee wanted something new to make it more fun for kids and educational for kids,” says Dr. Derry Glenn, Lima’s 6th Ward Councilman.
Glenn says he wants to add a teachable moment during his events, and the savings bonds help the kids learn fiscal responsibility.
Again, the Halloween Party will be Sunday, October 27th, at 1 pm at Hover Park across from the Collett Street tennis courts.
